Audience: Any woman who has had (recently or in the past) a cancer diagnosis. Family/ partners/ support people of women with a cancer diagnosis are also welcome to attend.

A Counterpart staff person and Peer Support Volunteer are visiting your area in October.  Join us for a day of wellbeing events and connecting with others who’ve had a similar experience.

All events are free and a light lunch will be provided. You are welcome to stay for all or part of the day.

Chair pilates and meditation – Ann Verdolini

About the session
Try out some gentle chair-based exercise. Chair Pilates is a full body exercise that can be adapted to all abilities. It improves balance, posture and joint mobility as well as relieving stress and tension in the body.

About the presenter
Ann Verdolini has worked within the fitness industry since 1987 including working specifically with cancer survivors. Ann is skilled at incorporating all types of fitness levels into her classes. She is a Fitness Instructor and holds a Diploma in Leisure & Lifestyle.

 

Art therapy – Sacha Maujean

About the session
This creative and fun activity led by Sacha will warm the group up and allow you to channel your artistic creativity – no experience or talent necessary!  Visual art therapy helps us strengthen our emotional wellbeing and communication.

About the presenter

Sacha is a creative art psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience supporting people to improve their mental health and wellbeing. She has experienced her own cancer journey with the loss of her daughter to neuroblastoma cancer in 2016 and is passionate about supporting women and children in this difficult space.

Sacha graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, an advanced diploma in Clinical Art Therapy, a graduate diploma in Counselling and is currently completely a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy. Sacha is also trained in aromatherapy, trauma informed practice, mindfulness, therapeutic crisis intervention, grief and bereavement, and is a Reiki Master. She believes in the biopsychosocial holistic approach to healing the self and is passionate about Clinical Arts Psychotherapies. Sacha has studied the brain extensively and keeps updated continuously with the latest neuroscientific research.

 

A new reality after a cancer diagnosis – Sharee Johnson

About the session
Many changes occur after diagnosis: physical, emotional, roles, family dynamics, work, mental health, economic/ financial – fill in the blanks with what happened to you. All women experience these differently, but there are common themes. Changes calls for a response, adjustment and a new way of managing your new reality. Sharee will walk the group through dealing with change and coming through the demands of a cancer diagnosis, treatment and what next.

About the presenter
Sharee is a registered Psychologist and Executive Coach. She considers mindfulness the most effective way to bring sustained change and focus to life. Her counselling experience includes the areas of anxiety, depression, stress, grief, chronic illness and other health challenges. Sharee is a member of the Australian Psychology Society Psychologists in Oncology Interest Group.
